The Age Limit

Age defines how many years you’ve been on this Earth, obviously.  It also kind of gives everybody else an idea of how much you’ve learned and how experienced you are.  For instance, “Old people are wise and experienced” “The two year old doesn’t know any better” “They are teenagers, they are wild and do crazy nonsense and have no clue what they are doing.”  I’m 15 years old; therefore, I fit in the “teenagers are wild and do crazy nonsense” category, sadly.  Why do we let the label of our age define our limits and define who we are?

The “it’s okay” Excuse

Every once in a while I find myself making a limit because I’m only 15,  as in limiting myself from taking opportunities to declare God’s name.  I would get onto myself for not knowing the Bible more, not praying as much as I can, not preaching more than I have, etc., but then I would “it’s okay” it with “I’m only 15.”  Do you think it’s really just “okay” that we let excuses or our age limit us from doing the will of the Father?

In the Bible, you have Timothy, an ordinary teenage who preached, evangelized, did mission work, and many amazing things for the Lord.  He didn’t let anything stand in his way, not even his age.  He had the mindset of what Paul told him,

“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”-1 Timothy 4:12

A preacher in my town always says, “There is no junior holy spirit.”  Meaning, it’s the same God no matter how old you are.  Never get into the mindset of, “I’m young, I’ll just wait until I’m older.”  And this is not just for young people.  Sometimes the older people get in the mindset, “I’m too old to do that” or “I’ve done enough in all my years.”

Don’t let those kind of excuses get a hold on you, because age doesn’t define how much or how little power you have.  As Christians, we ALL have power and authority in Jesus’ name, because the One living inside of us has the most power.  No matter your age, we all have the power and authority to declare the Lord’s name!

The Box

The world  wants to put us in little boxes with different categories.  One of those categories is age.  Usually, ages 5-12 stay in elementary school because of their learning ability. High school is usually 14-18 because our learning is higher, and then college/work, and etc.  But our life as Christians doesn’t fit into that box.  There’s not sections for doing the work of God.  God doesn’t put you in a box.  Once you give you’re life to God, you begin to fall in love with Him so deeply that you want to do anything and everything for Him.  That kind of love doesn’t fit in a box.  His love for us is unconditional and always pouring out to us, and He has already done everything for us.  So we shouldn’t put our age on the line of doing things for Him, and neither should we let the fear of feeling uncomfortable prevent us from doing His will.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” -Romans 12:2

We are not of this world, so don’t let the world put you in a box of what you can or can’t do.  If you feel like preaching, don’t let your age or fear stop you; dig in the Word and do it!  You think you should pray even more, don’t “it’s okay” the situation because you’re a certain age; expand your prayer life!  You want to take up every opportunity you can to declare God’s name, get a little uncomfortable, and show God how much you love Him.  Show Him that you simply love Him so much that you will not let your age or anything else be an excuse to not declare His name.  With God, there is no age limit.  You can do all things through Jesus Christ, so what’s stopping you?
